Brylan's Journey to Grand Champion Bred & Fed Market Beef: A Testament to Hard Work and Responsibility

Updated: Aug 8

In the heart of Delta County, where the rolling fields meet the towering mountains, a 16 year old young man named Brylan Cotten has embarked on a journey for several years that would define his character and showcase his dedication. Each year, Brylan dedicates himself to raising a market steer, a journey that would culminate in his triumph at the Delta County Fair, where he proudly earned the title of Grand Champion Bred & Fed market beef 2024.

The journey of raising a market steer is no small feat. It requires early mornings, late nights, and a level of commitment that few are willing to undertake. For Brylan, this was more than just a project; it was a responsibility he took on with pride and determination. From the moment he picked his steer out, Brylan was there, caring for it, feeding it, and ensuring it had everything it needed to thrive.

Raising a Grand Champion steer isn't just about meeting physical needs; it's about developing a bond, understanding the animal's needs, and teaching him how to be a show animal. From the swagger walk to the set many hours were spent with his steer. Brylan learned to balance schoolwork, a full time job, social life, and his responsibilities to his steer, often sacrificing personal time to ensure the animal's well-being. This level of dedication is a testament to the importance of teaching youth responsibility and the value of hard work.

In today's fast-paced world, where instant gratification often takes precedence, the lessons learned from caring for livestock are invaluable. Brylan's experience with his steer taught him patience, resilience, and the importance of consistency. He learned that success doesn't come overnight but is the result of months and sometimes years of effort, dedication, and perseverance.

The Delta County Fair Market Beef competition was the perfect stage for Brylan to showcase the fruits of his labor. Competing against other talented and hardworking youth, Brylan's steer stood out, not just for its physical qualities but for the care and attention it had received over the past ten months. Winning the Grand Champion Bred & Fed market beef title was not just a victory for Brylan, but a recognition of the time, effort, and love he poured into raising his steer.

This achievement is more than just a blue ribbon or a trophy; it's a life lesson that Brylan will carry with him forever. The skills and values he has developed through this experience will serve him well in all areas of life. Responsibility, hard work, and dedication are qualities that will take him far, whether he chooses to continue in agriculture or pursue other passions. To top it all off Brylan's Champion Steer tied with another steer for high selling steer at the sale selling for $11,500. Huge thank you to the buyers who supported all the fine kids at the Delta County Fair especially, Weekender Sports, Rhinehart Oil, Master & Doyle Petroleum Company and Delta Sales Yard for buying Brylan's Bred and Fed Steer.

As parents, educators, and community members, it's crucial that we continue to support and encourage our youth in endeavors like these. Teaching responsibility through caring for livestock not only helps young people develop essential life skills but also instills a sense of pride and accomplishment that cannot be replicated in a classroom.

Brylan's journey to Grand Champion is a shining example of what can be achieved when we invest in our youth and give them the tools and opportunities to succeed. His story is a reminder that hard work, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility are the cornerstones of success, no matter the field.

Congratulations, Brylan, on your well-deserved victory! Your hard work has paid off, and you've made your family and community incredibly proud. Thank you to the village of people who have helped Brylan. Miles and Lisa Roberts, Bill Carsten, Ce'rra Westermen, Brad Fassett, and Sissons Feed.
